Andrew "Benito" Cuomo Announces New Program: "Swatting" for Fun & Profit
Self-identified proud Progressive, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a tip hotline to rat out "illegal" gun owners. Anonymous tipsters will be paid $500 to report anyone who they merely suspect may illegally posses a firearm.
Never mind that such a system is ripe for potential abuse by vindictive ex romantic partners or disgruntled former employees or vicious left wing bloggers like Brett Kimberlin who revel in "Swatting" their political and ideological enemies. Also never mind that police may arrive armed to the teeth for a complete non-event and end up killing an entirely innocent human being a la Amadou Diallo. Do any of you liberals remember the late Mr. Diallo? Ya, I didn't think so.
H/T to Christopher Fountain of Journal News Online Gun Map Blowback fame who opined on this subject here. I urge you to read it. Chris delves into the character deficiencies of the Progressive mind.

Connecticut's Democrat Party: A House Divided
Yesterday, March 14, 2013, Colt Arms, a legendary Connecticut firearm company that has manufactured firearms for over 175 years in this great state, bussed 400+ of its employees to Hartford to impress upon the state's Democrat majority legislature the faces of those people who are at most economic risk should the democrats pass into law the most draconian anti-gun bills now pending before the state's legislature. With one or two exceptions, the proposals would do exactly NOTHING to reduce the possibility of - never mind prevent - another mentally ill person from murdering his own mother so he could seek to out do the insane murderer of Sandy Hook Elementary's staff and students.
Scanning the crowd of Colt workers in the video above, what is most immediately obvious is the racial, ethnic and sex diversity of Colt's work force. Most of Colt's jobs are blue-collar union manufacturing jobs.
For some time now, Connecticut's Democrat Party has been a two caste hierarchy with college and grad school educated liberal elitists providing the management of the party and filling out the party's candidates for higher statewide and Federal office while the balance of the Party's rank and file have consisted mostly of blue collar workers who are very often union members. But more recently, the hyper-educated "Progressive" and very wealthy elitists of Fairfield County have gained a much firmer grip over the Party in both operations, policy, agenda and decision making. In reality, these two groups could not possibly be more divergent in their respective economic interests, although the elitists have been successful - until now - in veiling over those clear clashes in interest.
In the immediate aftermath of the disaster at Sandy Hook, the opportunistic Fairfield based elitists pushed fast and furiously to ram through an extremely restrictive gun control package that would - if it is passed - effectively ban for sale in Connecticut the very firearms that Colt and several other Connecticut manufacturers make and have made for years in this state. In so doing, the Fairfield elitists have thrown the blue collar workers of this state under the bus.
Colt's owners and employee's have made it clear that they do not believe Governor Malloy's promises to exclude Connecticut's gun manufacturers from the effects of his dream "progressive" gun-control legislation will have any effect in protecting the company from the inherent negative effects of his gun control package, properly pointing to the economic damage already done to Remington's New York State operations in the wake of proudly "progressive" Benito Cuomo's evisceration of gun rights in that state due entirely to a growing nationwide boycott of New York State gun products. Who are the people most immediately hurt by Cuomo's laws? The blue-collar workers who will be losing their jobs.
God, isn't it wonderful to be a narcissistic progressive? You never have to live with the consequences of your own actions; that's for the little people to suffer.

The Times they are a-Changin: Rand Paul's Filibuster Fallout
Rand Paul has captured the positive attention of Republicans and Democrats alike, meaning the voters, not his fossilized senior Senators, who it appears are enraged that Paul has left them looking like idiotic saps for having been played by Obama, and boy were they ever.
Here's a relevant stanza from an old Dylan song that brings home the message that the fossils need to internalize right NOW!
UPDATE:
Here's a link to the Washington Time's piece on McCain's snit-fit. The commentary does not reflect a high degree of admiration for the Old Guard.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Cognitive Dissonance and the Liberal Mind
Very interesting piece by Jeff Jacoby of the Boston Globe on the failure of the 1998 Massachusetts draconian gun control law to bring about the results that the Bay State's "Best and Brightest" legislators assured the public would flow from their brave efforts:
After the 'toughest' gun law, gun crime rose
In 1998, Massachusetts passed what was hailed as the toughest gun-control legislation in the country. Among other stringencies, it banned semiautomatic "assault" weapons, imposed strict new licensing rules, prohibited anyone convicted of a violent crime or drug trafficking from ever carrying or owning a gun, and enacted severe penalties for storing guns unlocked.
"Today, Massachusetts leads the way in cracking down on gun violence," said Republican Governor Paul Cellucci as he signed the bill into law. "It will save lives and help fight crime in our communities." Scott Harshbarger, the state's Democratic attorney general, agreed: "This vote is a victory for common sense and for the protection of our children and our neighborhoods." One of the state's leading anti-gun activists, John Rosenthal of Stop Handgun Violence, joined the applause. "The new gun law," he predicted, "will certainly prevent future gun violence and countless grief."
It didn't.Read the rest HERE
I wonder if somewhere in Massachusetts there's a Bush they can blame it all on.

R.I.P. Ed Koch....
Rest In Peace
Edward Irving Koch
December 12, 1924 – February 1, 2013
“I’m the sort of person who will never get ulcers,” ..... “Why? Because I say exactly what I think. I’m the sort of person who might give other people ulcers.”
And this is why people on my side of the political divide could like, admire and respect Ed Koch, even as we adamantly disagreed with him.

Note to Jeff Zucker: Congratulations on your new job.
Jeffrey Zucker: Just a note to wish my sincere congratulations on your new gig at CNN. I see you're making some changes... Here's a heartfelt thought on your lineup's ratings problems.
As you likely already know, it appears that campy show-person RuPaul topped your network's "star" Piers Morgan by 20K viewers last Monday night. In case you don't want to buy out Pier's contract just now, you can at least more than double the show's audience by hiring RuPaul as Piers' co-host effective immediately. At the very least it would offer excellent comic relief.

Jessie Duff an NRA transvestite? Coulda fooled me....
Pompous metrosexual British Subject and twerp Mattie Chapman today opined in the Huffington Post (where else) that the women of the NRA are in fact transvestites.
Here's some pictures of Jessie Duff, a champion firearms competitor who is a proud member of the NRA. I'll let you be the judge of whether or not she looks like a transvestite.
"Apart from a few shrieking NRA transvestites (I think), most women seem to be either silent, reasonable, or in favor of more gun control."
Here's some pictures of Jessie Duff, a champion firearms competitor who is a proud member of the NRA. I'll let you be the judge of whether or not she looks like a transvestite.
I'm thinking Jessie is just a whole lot more woman than Mattie Chapman could ever hope to handle.

Estimate: Massachusetts Diverts 99% of Tobacco Money to Other Causes
By Walter Olson
From this weekend’s Lawrence (Mass.) Eagle-Tribune:Millions of dollars originally intended for smoking cessation programs in Massachusetts have been diverted to offset budget deficits, leaving the state struggling to fund quit-smoking hotlines, treatment programs and anti-tobacco advertising, the New England Center for Investigative Reporting has found. …“Roughly 99 percent of all the tobacco dollars that come into the state are used for something else,” said Stephen Shestakofsky, recently retired executive director of Tobacco Free Massachusetts, an anti-tobacco advocacy group. He was referring to the nearly $254 million in tobacco-related legal awards given to Massachusetts in 2012. More than $561 million in tobacco taxes was also collected, bringing the state’s total tobacco tally to just over $815 million, the CDC reports. On the one hand, it’s not as if I’d urge the state of Massachusetts to sink vast sums into the paternalist project of hectoring its citizens to quit, especially not at a time when its taxpayers are already having to foot a steep tab for its RomneyCare health insurance experiment. On the other hand, we can now see that it was the purest pretense for attorneys general in states like Massachusetts to have portrayed the Great Tobacco Robbery settlement of some years back as motivated by a supposed need for new “public health” outlays, as opposed to sheer plunder and the interests of the various lawyers involved. That’s worth remembering next time you hear a proposal to extract large sums from the food industry (either through taxation or, as some in the legal profession would like, by suing them for it under some creative theory) with the promise that funds will then be earmarked for anti-obesity efforts. In practice, after voters’ attention wanders, funds ordinarily get earmarked for the advancement of the political interests of those in power.

GOING GALT: Tina Turner to drop U.S. Citizenship.
Tina Turner is one of the most inspirational, talented (and sexiest) women in the entertainment industry. As a black woman who was physically abused by her much less talented late ex-husband, and who worked very hard over decades to get what she was due in a merciless industry that forgets one even exists if you aren't feeding it with money.
Today we learn that Tina Turner is on the verge of severing her relationship with the country of her birth. In news fresh off the virtual press, it appears that Tina Turner will soon surrender her U.S. citizenship. Although I don't know her underlying reasons, it could be due to the extraordinary burden imposed by the U.S. Government on U.S. citizens who live abroad to pay U.S. income tax even though they do not live in the United States.
What's the big deal? Well, nearly all the countries in the world (excluding the U.S. and a handful of others) tax people on the basis of their primary residence. The basic logic of this is if one benefits from the services provided by the government of the state in which one lives, then one should contribute to the cost of providing those services. If not, no tax is properly owing.
Time will tell if Tina is vilified and pilloried for her decision to cut her ties to the U.S. in the way some French and their crazed government went after Gerard Depardieu.
Anyway, here's the story, not that there's much of it...

Grounds for impeachment...?
On the Quinn & Rose radio show today, a caller identifying himself as "John" indicated that he had information based on a report from his Marine son - who was stationed on a ship off the Coast of Libya during Al Qaeda's attack on the U.S. Benghazi consulate attack - that Barack Obama himself gave the direct order to the Marine Commandant on board the ship to "Stand down" on an effort to launch a rescue of the beseiged Benghazi consular station on September 11, 2012.
I wish I could say it shocked me. It SHOULD, but it doesn't. Still, if true, it may be just what's needed to end this particular post turtle's presidency.
I can't load audio here, so you'll have to go to the page to download the MP3. The relevant call starts at around the 34 minute mark of the audio clip. Here's the link: Quinn & Rose, Hour 2.
