Rasmussen Reports: Republicans Lead in 5 of 6 2010 Senate Races

In 5 out of 6 2010 U.S. Senate Seat Races, Republican challengers are leading their potential Democrat Opponents. In five of these races, the Demoncrats are the incumbents. Click on the linked Orange state names below to read the full Rasmussen Poll report for the respective race.

NEVADA
Basically, a Referendum on Harry "the Dweeb" Reid

PENNSYLVANIA
Its Pat Toomey's to lose, not a great lead, but still a lead.
Expect privilege addicted Arlen to get really nasty on Toomey. And yes, its another referendum on the Democrat incumbent.

All three Republicans leading Chris (The Bankers' Butt Boy) Dodd
A clear referendum on this rotting corpse of a political skunk

COLORADO

ILLINOIS
Boz's Home State, and Kirk (R) behind in only
one of three potential match-ups and in that race by just 2 percentage points, probably within the margin of error.
Not too slouchy for the seat formerly held by Mr. Hope N. Change.

And finally,

from the land of Bill & Hill,

ARKANSAS
Incumbent Blanche Lincoln running behind
all 4 potential Republican opponents

Ray LaHood: C'mon guys! Play Nice... I Wanna Keep my Job

RINO Ray, Boz's Transportation Secretary, is whining about the lack of civility in Washingtoon and on the Air Waves, moping that:

"He (Obama) can't even compete with all this stuff that people are saying about him, so the idea that he did five interviews on Sunday, that's just minuscule compared to the kind of trash talk that goes on all week prior to that"

and,

"All of this background, all of this trash talk in the background, it does not contribute to civil discourse, and it does not contribute to the government or the country's ability to solve big issues,"

Ray! Pay attention. Americans are pissed off at BOTH parties right now. Your Boz is a principal target for that expression of discontent and anger because he's PRESIDENT, but he's also far from being alone as a deserving target of Americans' derision. Don't believe me? See it for yourself in this very recent Rasmussen Reports article "66% Angry at Government Policies, 60% Say Neither Party Has Answers".

Also, Ray, if you're that unhappy about it, feel free to follow Specter out the door; we won't miss you. Ohhh, BTW, if you do go, take Snowe and Collins with you please.

Arlen Specter's Political Graveyard Spiral: Toomey 48%, Specter 36%

Per Rasmussen Reports, it appears that Arlen Specter's re-election prospects are dim and that his numbers are in what pilots call a "graveyard spiral".

Pennsylvania Senate: Toomey 48%, Specter 36%

Uncomfortable town hall meetings are just the tip of the iceberg for Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. He now trails Republican Pat Toomey by double digits in his bid for reelection next year and is viewed unfavorably by a majority of the state’s voters.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Pennsylvania voters shows 48% would vote for Toomey if the election were held today. Just 36% would vote for Specter while four percent (4%) prefer a third option, and 12% are not sure.

Arlen Specter's Slow Slide into Oblivion...

From RealClearPolitics comes this more than half expected news about Arlen Specter's slow and richly deserved political demise:

PA Poll: Specter's Ratings Plummet
New Pennsylvania poll from Franklin and Marshall College has a tiny bit of good news but much more bad news for Democrat Arlen Specter.

The good news: Specter leads potential challenger Joe Sestak by 20 points in the Democratic primary. However, Sestak is not nearly as well known statewide as Specter, and 48% of Democrats remain undecided.

Specter 33
Sestak 13
Other 6
Undecided 48

Now the bad news for Specter: since switching parties on April 28 his ratings have taken a serious hit.

In March of this year Specter had a 52% job approval rating, today it's just 34%.

Specter's favorable rating has plummeted a net of 30 points in the past three months, swinging from a +24 (48 fav/24 unfav) in March to a -6 (31 fav/37 unfav) today.

Most troubling of all for Specter: 12 weeks ago 40% of voters said he deserved to be reelected, now only 28% support his reelection while 57% say it's "time for a change."

Other results from the poll: after a brief respite in March, Pennsylvanians are back to feeling more sour about the direction of the state. 44% say the Keystone state is headed in the right direction, while 48% say its moving down the wrong track. That's an 11-point negative swing since the last poll in March. Additionally, 43% of voters say they are "worse off" financially than they were a year ago, a seven-point increase from March.

F&M pegs President Obama's job approval rating at 55% while Governor Ed Rendell's approval rating is at a far more modest 38%.

Specter Will Be Junior Democrat on Committees

May 5, 2009, 8:55 p.m.

Despite promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) would retain his seniority after switching parties, Specter will be put at the end of the seniority line on all his committees but one under a resolution approved on the floor late Tuesday.

Under the modified organizing resolution, Specter will not keep his committee seniority on any of the five committees that he serves on and will be the junior Democrat on all but one — the chamber’s Special Committee on Aging. On that committee, he will be next to last in seniority.

As a result, Specter — who as a Republican was ranking member on the Judiciary Committee and a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, as well as ranking member of the panel’s Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education — will now rank behind all the other Democrats, at least until the end of this Congress.

"But as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach."

Hello again Arlen:

Well its a good thing you are much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach to things now that you are with 'em in both name and inclination. From where I stand, its looking like they do indeed share your "principles." Still, I think it must have come to you as something rather worse than a bad surprise to suddenly be a junior senator again. So much for Democrat promises.... hehehehe

As the saying goes: "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it."

Specter: Another Walking, Talking, Breathing Reason for Term Limits

Specter: GOP priorities contributed to Kemp death

Sen. Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania Democrat, said part of the reason he left the Republican Party last week was disillusionment with its healthcare priorities, and suggested that had the Republicans taken a more moderate track, Jack Kemp may have won his battle with cancer.

Mr. Specter, responding to a question from CBS's Bob Schieffer over whether he had let down Pennsylvanians who wanted a Republican to represent them, said he felt his priorities were more in line with those of the Democrats.

Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn't want me as their candidate," Mr. Specter said on CBS's "Face the Nation." "But as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach. And one of the items that I'm working on, Bob, is funding for medical research."

Mr. Specter continued: "If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine."

Mr. Kemp passed away Saturday, after fighting with cancer. Mr. Kemp ran for the White House in 1996 with Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole.

______

"Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn't want me as their candidate." Oh, really Arlen? Hmmm...? So, rather than work your ass off between now and primary day to prove to your Pennsylvania Republican constituents that you do in fact represent them, that you do in fact hear them and do in fact care about their issues and concerns, you jump ship at the first sign of trouble with your polls.

Well Arlen, we all know the saying about rats and sinking ships. Your problem is that you are confused about the distinction between your too long political career and principles; its your political career - battered by your long history of favoring statist interventionism over free market principles - that is the ship that ran straight into Obama's wildly bloated and irresponsible stimulus nightmare iceberg. So Arlen, I predict that you will be the author of your own political demise. You won't be missed by me.

You also said in the course of your chat "[b]ut as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach." Bluntly Arlen, the only "principle" to which you seem capable of sticking is your own endless re-election which it now seems is far from a certain outcome; just ask Chris Shays. Again, when you finally do lose you won't be missed, by me, or even by the permanent Georgetown cocktail party circuit; you will simply be gone, and all you'll be left to see is plain old citizen Arlen Specter, senza the senatorial honorific, in the mirror every morning. I bet the thought of that scares the shit out of you, doesn't it Arlen?

Finally, you said: "If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today..."

Neither you nor anyone else could possibly know to any degree of certainty whether Jack Kemp would be alive today. In any event, by your own admission, there is and has been substantial on-going cancer research and it has saved many lives, including yours. That said, you are a privileged Senator and therefore by definition an elitist entitled to the very best medical care to be found in the United States as part of your health care plan (funded by me, among many others). I for one have no faith or expectation that the level of care that you get as a Senator would be available to me or any other average unwashed citizen through the sort of government health care rationing system your former Senate colleague (and now, apparently your shaykh) plans to impose on all of us in due course.
