Is Liberalism (a/k/a Progressivism) a Mental Illness.... Case #1

Over the last few years and with increasing frequency, a number of Conservative to Libertarian thinkers have taken to calling Liberalism a mental disease. Until recently, I didn't give their argument much credence.... but three very recent cases strongly suggest that people who display indicia of mental illness are primarily drawn to Liberal/Progressive ideology.

Case #1:

Allan Brauer - Now the former Communications Chair of the Sacramento CA Democrat Party.

In response to a "tweet" issued by a Ted Cruz speechwriter named Amanda Carpenter, Brauer wrote:

@amandacarpenter May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.

Brauer was responding to this general audience Carpenter tweet:

GOP beat gun control, changed Obama's mind on Syria, is holding the line on amnesty. We can defund Obamacare, too!

 Carpenter responded in a general tweet:

Who. Did the head of the Sac Dem Party just wish death on my kids? RT @JHillVA: is @allanbrauer this guy http://www.sacdems.org/about-us/executive-board/allan-brauer/ …?

and followed it up with this:

Deserves some unfollows-->RT @allanbrauer: @amandacarpenter May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.

Brauer in his charmless fashion responded with this:

Busy blocking the tapeworms that have slithered out of hellspawn @amandacarpenter's asshole. How's your day so far?

and followed it up with this:

I'm being attacked on Twitter for wishing one of Ted Cruz's pubic lice to experience the pain her boss is inflicting on Americans.

Brauer ultimately "apologized" and Carpenter accepted the "apology," But the damage was done and word of Brauer's depravity spread to his employers who "sought and accepted his resignation,"  commenting that "The comments by our volunteer communications chair are appalling and inexcusable," ...  "No matter what our political disagreements may be, wishing harm is never an acceptable response during heated public debate or any other time."

Doubling Down on Stupid: Francois Hollande, now at a polled approval low of 23%, plans to fix his image problems by imposing a new carbon tax....

France's Hollande hits new low in poll ratings

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Francois Hollande saw his approval ratings fall to their lowest level so far in a monthly poll that showed less than a quarter of voters were satisfied with his actions.

In a survey by pollster IFOP published in weekly paper Le Journal du Dimanche, Hollande's approval ratings dropped 5 points from last month to 23 percent.
This was below his previous low of 25 percent in the same poll in April and close to the lowest ever score for a French president, the 22 percent recorded in 1991 by Francois Mitterand, France's previous Socialist president, the paper said.
The poll underlines the task facing Hollande in reviving his popularity at a time when wrangling over tax levels has clouded efforts to revitalize a sluggish economy and his support for military strikes against Syria has drawn mixed reactions.
The poll also showed Hollande's ratings among supporters of the Green party had slid by 19 points since last month, a sign of growing tensions between Hollande's Socialists and their Green allies in government.
Hollande this week outlined plans to slash fossil fuel use, supported by a new carbon tax, in an announcement seen as aimed at reassuring the Green party. France's next presidential elections are due in 2017.

In classic socialist (here, they call themselves "Progressives") reasoning, Hollande has determined that he can fix his woes, and the country's, by focusing on exactly the wrong problem. I never cease to be amazed at the capacity of the left to double down on stupid.

I've been around long enough, and have observed enough craven conduct by the Political Class to be quite jaded at this point in my life. Little surprises me, even less - sadly - shocks me, but this story describes parliamentarian conduct that goes far beyond the pale of civilized norms.

Spitting on Their Graves: Democrats Leave Benghazi Hearing Before Testimony From Families of Victims

During the second portion of a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing about Benghazi Thursday on Capitol Hill, the majority of Democrats on the Committee left the room and refused to listen to the testimony of Patricia Smith and Charles Woods. Ms. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer killed in the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Charles Woods is the father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was also killed.

The far side of the room, shown empty in the photo, belongs to the Democrats. The only Democrats who stayed were Ranking Member Elijah Cummings and Rep. Jackie Speier.

 One commenter at the Town Hall website, was kind enough to list the names of the ungrateful sleazebags who fled the hearing. These people do not deserve the offices they hold. Here's the list:

Pew Polls Reports a 40% Plurality of GOP Voters Oppose Bombing Syria

Here's the graphic which also serves as a link button to the underlying story.

What's most interesting is that opposition to military action runs strongly across party lines with either majorities or at least a plurality opposing U.S. military intervention in Syria's civil war, with self-identified independents reporting themselves as the most opposed at 50%  I would count the large majority the Don't Knows as being opposed in principle.

The only people who seem to be in favor of intervention are the American political class who have also crossed party lines, but, unlike the public at large, to back Humpty Dumpty Obama in his desperate (and I predict, ultimately unsuccessful) bid to save his crumbling credibility.

Yes, I know this is not a scientific poll. Nevertheless, it is most instructive on the mood of Americans on the issue today. Personally observed anecdotal evidence supports this conclusion: Not one person I know (most of whom were Obama voters) is in favor of a U.S. intervention in Syria in any way, so it's pretty damn safe to say that it is only our now thoroughly corrupted political class and the beneficiaries of the Milindustcomplex who are chafing to go into Syria at this point.

Way way back on March 15th I posted a piece HERE on why Connecticut's Democrat Party - headed as it is by elitist white collar progressives who posture and promote themselves as being the best friends of union blue collar workers -  is anything but a friend of labor. For some time now, Connecticut's Democrat Party has been a two caste hierarchy with college and grad school educated liberal elitists providing the management of the party and filling out the party's candidates for higher statewide and Federal office while the balance of the Party's rank and file have consisted mostly of blue collar workers who are very often union members. But more recently, the hyper-educated "Progressive" and very wealthy elitists of Fairfield County have gained a much firmer grip over the Party in both operations, policy, agenda and decision making. In reality, these two groups could not possibly be more divergent in their respective economic interests, although the elitists have been successful - until now - in veiling over those clear clashes in interest.

A lead story out of Politico this morning covering a potential mass exodus of junior congressperps and their staffers all terrified by the financial implications of OBAMACARE, quotes Cong John Larson thus:

Rep. John Larson [CT, Dist 1], a Connecticut Democrat in leadership when the law passed, said he thinks the problem will be resolved.

“If not, I think we should begin an immediate amicus brief to say, ‘Listen this is simply not fair to these employees,’” Larson told POLITICO. “They are federal employees.”

Maybe John, just maybe, you would have found that little gem of a provision in the bill had you had the stones to put up resistance to the psychotic wicked witch of the west, then your Speaker, when she infamously proclaimed We have to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it. Hmmmm???

But in some ways even more troublesome than your complete lack of gonadal fortitude in the run up to passage of that now plainly discernible fiscally catastrophic legislation, is your elitist attitude that somehow, your staffers are better and more important members of society by virtue of their status as "federal employees" than are your constituents whom you are meant to SERVE rather than screw over.

So John, enjoy your reward, you've earned it!
